FLOSS BARNETT HOWLAND FWSS (Fellow of the Shiatsu Society)
I love and am fascinated by our bodies. I learned to love mine at the end of my teenage years when I studied dance. It was a great privilege to explore movement and flow however it was without balance and was incredibly obsessive and grueling. After many years of training, I became ill and unhappy. I saw a sign on my mum's office wall that read 'nourishment not punishment'. This led to me towards something that would nourish me on every level. I went on a journey to find out how I could do this whilst helping to nourish others too... Shiatsu is where I found this. I qualified as a Shiatsu practitioner in 2001 and quite simply, I love it.
When I started my training I learned the complex traditional Chinese medicinal system that is its foundation. As I have journeyed deeper, I have found Shiatsu to be a constantly evolving creative practice. The addition of Acutonics and Hot stones has come as a natural progression and I find they enhance and extend my practice. Integrating them in to treatments has made perfect sense for me and shows the adaptability of Shiatsu and how it gives space for exploration, always revealing new ideas and ways of looking at life and it's patterns. Each person is unique and therefore no treatment is the same. This is such a gift and keeps me on my toes and always fascinated. As part of my continued professional development, I have delved into and explored Communication skills, Non Violent Communication, nutrition, facilitation, health in pregnancy and fertility, alignment, shakti dance, voice and sound work, and qi-gong.
Prevention is better than cure.
Nourishment not punishment....
